Don’t be afraid of introducing pattern into a small space behind a desk, as an interesting wallpaper or mural will cleverly distract from a messy desk and can play with the perception of space. If wallpaper isn’t your thing, you could use a pinboard, wall-mounted clipboards or rows of curtain wire with small pegs to hang up inspirational tear sheets, photos and postcards to make an interesting backdrop to your study area.
Lots of light, it’s important that your home office doesn’t hide you away in a dark corner of your living room – you won’t get any work done and you’ll end up resenting your own home! Make sure you find a spot with lots of light; this will not only save on your electricity bill, but will increase your productivity and keep you in a good mood, especially if the sun is shining!
Outside office with white wood panelling, turning a garden room into a home office is ideal for keeping work and living areas separate. Using one side for correspondence and filing and the other for more creative work helps create a sense of serenity. And there’s nothing more inspirational than a garden to look out over while working.
